Choosing A Safe Car For Your Teen

If you have a teen driver, you know the level of anxiety that increases when they take to the road. There are ways to minimize that stress, and that includes closely looking at the safety features of a vehicle when car buying.

You should purchase as new of a car as possible. The reason is simple; the newer the car, the more safety features it is likely to have. These can include ABS (Automatic Braking System), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), improved side impact structures and air bags. You may also want to check the car’s safety ratings from the non-profit Insurance Institute of Highway safety (IIHS).

Of course, you also want to make sure your teen’s car is properly maintained. Make sure the car always has tires with good tread and the brakes are in good condition.

It never hurts to remind your young driver of the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of defensive driving techniques.
